Nokia recalls Phone Chargers

Nokia yesterday made an announcement, that a number of its chargers manufactured earlier this year were a potential fire hazard and need to be replaced. Read on to find out if your charger is affected.

Nokia claims that “that the plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger’s internal components and potentially posing an electric shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket.” Though yet there haven’t been any fires or incidents they are replacing them.

The affected chargers are those manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 and with the following model types

AC -3U

AC-3E

and those manufactured by BYD between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009 and with the following model type

AC-4U

If your charger was not made by BYD, a Chinese firm, you do not need to worry. If your charger does fall in the above set then just SMSCHG followed by the 27 digit number printed on your charger (Image Above) to 55555. Nokia will let you know if it’s defective or not.

Else visit a Nokia Care Centre and they will do the needful.
